Sandy Whyman BACP Accredited Counsellor - Clinical Counselling Supervisor
I am a qualified and experienced Person Centred Supervisor. Although the person centred philosophy is always at the core of how I work, I do include psychodrama, transactional analysis, CBT and working creatively within my work. I have worked extensively with children and young people and have many years experience of working with adults, couples and families.
I see my role as a supervisor as being committed to building and maintaining a trusting therapeutic relationship, I believe this is essential in supporting the supervisee to explore any concerns regarding their work. It is my belief that by providing the core conditions of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard, that this contributes to creating a safe environment for self reflection. It is my hope that the supervisee will feel accepted, valued, heard, understood and that we have an equal mutual respect within the relationship.
I also see my role as being supportive and share in the responsibility of helping you to develop your competency, skills and knowledge and have a deeper understanding of your work. I will encourage you in finding your own resources to develop your confidence, self esteem, trust in your own process and develop your own way of working.
Within the person centred philosophy I also integrate other ways of working. I understand that every person has their own unique way of how they view the world. Therefore I may offer to work creatively in supervision helping you reflect on your work in your relationship with your client, hopefully gaining an awareness of how it feels to 'be in their shoes'.
Communication is vital in relationships, both with supervisor and supervisee and counsellors with their clients. Transactional Analysis can be very effective in helping people to explore communicaton within relationships. Leading to a greater awareness and a deeper understanding of how people communicate within each of the Adult, Parent and Child ego states.
