I am a trained and fully qualified supervisor able to work with person-centred practitioners or those who use an integrative model of working.Past and present supervisees work in a range of different settings including the NHS,Further Education, charities and the private sector.

My supervision training lasted for one year, was rigorous and thorough, endorsed by BACP and led to the award of a Diploma in Supervision.Other Supervision courses are much shorter and offer certification only.

I have good experience of helping student counsellors  as well as those fully qualified and was for some years the co-ordinator of a Counselling service in a prison where trainee practitioners were on placement.I therefore am aware of the demands of courses and the kinds of standards which students are expected to reach in both their written and practical work.I am registered as an approved supervisor with some University and College Counselling departments.

I like to feel that a previous background in teaching helps me to communicate clearly and to be aware of the needs of learners in a particularly empathic way.

I am a Registered member of the register accredited by the Dept of Health and Social care of the BACP and follow all their ethical guidelines and codes of conduct.

I wish all my supervisees to experience a balance of support and challenge when working with me and to develop  more confidence in their own independent practice and decision-making.I also aim to help my supervisees grow further professional skills and resources to cope with particularly stressful situations in their work.I have good feedback that my interventions are helpful, supportive and thought-provoking.

Supervision offers an opportunity for:-

Time out with a professional colleague to reflect on your caseloads and client work.

Offloading concerns about clients and discussing ways of helping them further.

Considering how clients are impacting on you and for any transference issues to be explored.

Further learning

Growth in confidence

Mentoring from another counsellor who can 'add another eye' to issues.

Support in situations  which challenge   and when ethical dilemmas arise.

Identifying your skills and areas where you might feel a little shaky in your practice and wish to feel more secure.

Discussing further CPD and career choices.

Thinking about your own self-care and resilience.

The list can go on... but Supervision is a collaborative experience and,at its best ,is highly enjoyable, fascinating and beneficial to all involved-especially the client who remains in the forefront of each Supervision session.

I am always happy to respond to enquiries and the first half hour of any initial session whilst we meet and discuss needs is always free.No obligation, free half hour meet ups whilst you seek a suitable Supervisor for you are also available and encouraged.

In addition,I offer Supervision support to those working in Management positions or  in any fields where it is important for employees to take time to reflect on their practice. The value of doing this with an   'outsider' is being more and more acknowledged in the corporate world as leading to enhanced performance and being of   great worth in enabling workers to develop skills and be honest in their appraisals of themselves without the pressure of 'failure' in the  eyes of others.

I have helped some Counselling supervisees set up their own practices and have helped with interview and application skills when some have applied for work.

I am a trained Mediator and also have an interest in Coaching for those who may  find the acquisition of some of these extra skills  useful in any further professional work they may be contemplating.

I am also interested in offering Supervision  facilitation to small groups and have good experience of doing this.

I can teach Mindfulness and demonstrate how its application can be helpful in aiding clients.I also teach stress management.

I usually charge £55 for 1hr30 minutes for qualified Counsellors but have a special rate of £45 for student counsellors on placement.

For qualified Counsellors working in a voluntary capacity,my fee is £50.

My Supervision fee for groups is £75.

All my fees are reviewed on an annual basis.
