Supervisor Rob Abbott, MA, BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor
I am an experienced supervisor. I have a diploma in supervision (with distinction) from the Society of Analytical Psychology.
I work with experienced counsellors/psychotherapists as well as those who are newly qualified or in training. I have experience of working with groups and individuals. I also have experience of supervising other healthcare professionals.
I see that supervision has at its core four clear purposes and these direct what I offer my supervisees.
- To provide a reflective space for the therapist where the emotional needs of the client can be explored.
- To develop a place where we can explore the transference and countertransference issues that inevitably arise in our work.
- To make sure that the therapy is safe for both the client and the therapist.
- To help with the professional development of the counsellor/psychotherapist. This is clearly of particular importance for those who are in training but I have been working for 25 years and am glad to say that I am still learning.
