Supervision details
I am a Person-centred Counsellor and Supervisor based in Blackpool. Having been in private practice since 1995, I have worked with numerous people during that time on a huge variety of issues. I particularly value the Person-centred Approach because it empowers individuals and enables them to regain some control over their own lives and circumstances. Although a well qualified, experienced and BACP Accredited Counsellor, I am just an ordinary person who values other people. I became a Counsellor because I experienced how valuable it was as a client when I was struggling with some issues as a mature student at the University of Central Lancs in 1989. Over the years I have provided Counsellor Training and Supervision to students on a number of person-centred Diploma Courses in a variety of settings. I now supervise trainee and qualified Counsellors and Supervisors on both an individual and an organisational basis. I also offer Clinical Supervision to ISVA's (Independent Sexual Violence Advisors) and IDVA's (Independent Domestic Abuse Advisors) in addition to other non-counselling Clinical Practitioners.I believe it is essential that I provide a safe, supportive space for exploration of any issues and concerns related to Counselling practice and Supervisee wellbeing. As a Supervisor I have gained a good understanding of issues related to counselling within the NHS, at various HM Prison sites, in Education, in voluntary organisations and also when working with Counsellors and Supervisors in Bereavement and Cancer related employment. As a Clinical Supervisor I help ensure that clients are experiencing a confidential, safe and effective practice via their practitioners, and these practitioners are being well supported. SInce 2002, my Supervisees include other Clinical Supervisors from across Blackpool, Lancashire and Cumbria.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
