Matthew Byng MBACP (Accred), EMDR Accredited Practitioner
I have been offering person-centred supervision to students, newly qualified practitioners and more experienced therapists for many years.
The purpose of our work is to bring the client's presence into sharper focus so that their symbolic presence inside you is closer to the actual person you are seeing. As the clarity of this vision increases so your responses to them will be more powerful as they reflect this more accurate awareness of their inner world. Your relationship will inevitably deepen as your responses demonstrate how close you are to them, inhabiting their world. Their trust and safety in your work will give them the courage to explore and weaken their conditions of worth, bringing their true self into congruence with their self concept.
In this relational work it is you that is the tool that will help the client resolve their issues, so anything that impacts you will impact the client and so is welcome in our supervision. This is the basis of the Seven Eyed Model of Supervision which forms the foundation of my supervision work.
