According to a recent study carried out by charity, Relate, almost one in five couples are considering separating or arguing regularly. The impact of this on children could be "far reaching".
BBC News covered this story, looking at a case study of a broken marriage and talking to experts about why UK couples are struggling to stay together.
Speaking to Counselling Directory member Jan Artingstall, a potential cause highlighted in the piece was the 'lost art of talking'.
"People have lost the art of talking about how they feel. It's like we have gone back to being children who don't have the language to communicate feelings." she says.
