What Is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a therapy that aims to help you to change the way you think, feel and behave. CBT is offered as a treatment for a variety of mental health and physical problems, it is a structured, focused, time limited and collaborative approach.   

In their own right Cognitive & Behavioural therapy are separate therapies. To date CBT has come in three waves 1st wave behavioural, 2nd wave cognitive and 3rd wave mindfulness. One thing they all have in common is that each of them aim to reduce the levels of emotional distress, however this is achieved by using a variety of different interventions for example Behavioural Activation and or Cognitive restructuring. 

How Can Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Help You?

It is possible to break negative cycles with CBT interventions and in doing so it will help to reduce emotional distress.  

It is identified that CBT has helped people with various conditions both mental health conditions and physical conditions. 

Anxiety disorders including phobias, panic attacks and Panic disorder.

  • Body dysmorphic disorder
  • Anger
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Sexual and relationship problems
