About me

I am an experienced and accredited Psychotherapist.  I am available for short-term, solution focused work and longer-term in-depth psychotherapy. I am a specialist in gender diversity and identity, working with these issues both within the NHS and privately.

People who contact me are often troubled by anxiety, depression and/or stress. Sometimes they are experiencing difficulties in relationships, or may feel stuck in unhelpful patterns of behaviour that they want to change. I can use my skills and experience to help you consider and understand what is happening in your life and support you to make changes, or to accept the things that cannot be altered, such as loss and bereavement.

I provide a safe and confidential space in a beautiful, tranquil environment that will assist your exploration.

My work is carried out in accordance with the ethical principles and code of professional conduct of the UK Council for Psychotherapy.

How do I choose a therapist?

Some considerations and suggestions to help you make a choice:

1. Are they professionally qualified and how long have they been in practice? What are their qualifications? It is vital that your new psychotherapist or counsellor is highly skilled and able to assist you with your concerns.

2. Anyone can call themselves a counsellor or psychotherapist because the profession is not regulated. Choose someone who belongs to a recognised professional body such as UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) or BACP (British Association for Counselling or Psychotherapy)

3. Do they state that they adhere to a recognised code of ethics?

4. Do they undertake regular Continuing Professional Development

5. Do they offer a written contract which outlines administrative and business arrangements?

Why choose a Transactional Analysis Psychotherapist?

In contrast to some practitioners who are able to use the title of 'psychotherapist' after only two years of training, a Certified Transactional Analyst Psychotherapist's qualification process is extremely rigorous, as it has to meet two sets of criteria.

In addition to those of the 'Gold' standard of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), which requires qualification to Masters Level, as a Certified Transactional Analyst Psychotherapist I have achieved the rigorous criteria of the European Association of Transactional Analysis (EATA). Under these two bodies as a minimum requirement a Certified Transactional Analysis Psychotherapist must:

• Have completed no less than four years of post-graduate psychotherapy training of at least 900 hours (including supervision).

• Have no less than 750 hours of previous experience as a practitioner, at least 50 of which must be with couples or groups.

• Have been supervised by a senior practitioner all through the process at a rate of one hour of supervision for every six hours of work with clients.

• Understand mental ill health through undertaking a placement with psychiatric specialists.

• Abide by professional ethics required by both UKCP and EATA.

• Have engaged in their own personal therapy for no less than the duration of their training.

• Submit evidence each year to demonstrate they are continuing their professional development before and after qualification.

• Submit and pass a written Dissertation/Case Study of no less 24,000 words.

• Understand child & adult psychological development.

• Have passed an oral examination with a panel of four Certified Transactional Analysts.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
