About me

Welcome to my page.

I'm a psychotherapeutic counsellor working face to face in Ipswich and working remotely with people all over Suffolk, and wider into the UK.  As a counsellor I use an integrative approach and, in addition to counselling, I practice a solution focused behavioural therapy called BrainWorking Recursive Therapy® and offer phase based trauma therapy.

I worked at a local organisation as a counsellor from 2015, where I worked with a wide variety of people and reasons that bring them to therapy; mostly complex and enduring mental health problems and trauma. I now run a full time private practice, with the counselling I offer, a key part of that, alongisde a contract working for a local organisation who works with survivors of sexual abuse and sexual assault.

How I work

For therapy to be beneficial for you, you really need to feel that your therapist is the right one for you; whatever that means to you. I believe that, alongside my training and qualifications, the way you feel about how we interact and the way we work together is key for your success.

The way I work focuses on you, hearing what you need and what your goals of therapy are. It's important to me that we can form a successful working relationship, allowing you the time and space to get the best you can out of therapy.  Any work we do, will be just about you, to meet your needs and will be in your best interests. This will mean that whatever brings you into our sessions will be key in the work we do together.

What is most important for me, when you come to a session, is that you feel comfortable and safe. For some people, that feeling of safety, security or trust can come quickly.  For others, it can take more time, especially if you're feeling really anxious about some aspect of therapy, or even purely about coming. I work with a deep level of empathy and acceptance for you, as a person, and whatever it is that brings you to therapy.

Areas I work with

For some people it is important to know some of the areas I work with.  I've worked with issues from anxiety to panic attacks, hypervigilance to trauma work, self confidence and self esteem issues to weight-loss, grief and loss, guilt and shame to anger, fears to phobias, complex mental health difficulties and other areas too.

Previously, I have worked with a variety of people, including victims, survivors, perpetrators, professionals, retirees, students, members of the LGBTQIA+ community and individuals of different genders and neurodivergent people. That said, everyone has slightly different needs from therapy, even if the reason someone comes is similar to that of someone I have worked with previously.

Areas I currently work with are;

~Bereavement
~Anxiety
~A diagnosis of any kind of ill health
~Mental health difficulties (of any nature), diagnosed or undiagnosed
~Coping strategies that you don’t want to use anymore (such as self harm, alcohol, drugs, eating, gambling)
~Currently in an abusive situation
~Having previously been in an abusive relationship
~Child abuse (emotional, physical, sexual, or neglect)
~Work difficulties
~Relationship breakdown or relationship difficulties
~Difficulties with dealing with something that is going on at the moment
~Struggling to deal with something that has gone on in the past
~Issues around the future in some way
~Wanting to change your life in some way
