About me

Welcome to Jackie Donelan Counselling. Searching for a counsellor is the first brave step towards a happier and more fulfilling life.

My area of interest is anxiety, and I am able to offer an emotionally safe space to explore your anxiety, whether you are aware of what is causing it or not, we can uncover this together, and work towards gaining a better understanding and feeling more in charge of this debilitating condition.

Are you wondering if counselling is a worthwhile investment? Do you ask yourself if counselling will help you, and how long will you need to come for? Research has shown that prospects are good - 80% of people feel better after therapy (1) and the evidence shows that 65% of people improve after just 7 sessions (2).

Most people experience difficulties in their lives, and sometimes feel that they need some extra support.

I understand that counselling can feel daunting and you may be unsure if it is the right course of action for you, therefore I offer a FREE 30-minute initial consultation. In this 30 minute session, we will talk about your reasons for wanting counselling and I will give you information about how I work so that you can decide if counselling is for you and if you would like to continue.

I operate a private practice in Dorking, offering one to one face to face and Online counselling and psychotherapy. I provide a safe, confidential environment where clients will experience a warm, non-judgemental approach. My Dorking practice is located just outside Dorking town where there is on-street free parking.

I have had lots of experience working with many different types of issues, and in particular, I have seen many people with relationship issues, gender issues and those suffering from anxiety and depression. I particularly have an interest in working with anxiety, and offer a confirming, affirming and safe place to explore these issues from.

I work from an Integrative base, which means that I use a range of different styles. These include:

  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Humanistic Counselling

Each client is unique. As a practitioner, I am able to offer you a flexible approach, where together we can discover what works best for you, and build a relationship, within which we can explore your difficulties together.

I offer short and long term counselling, for younger and older adults.

Appointments are available daytime weekdays.

I am an affiliate counsellor with WPA Private Medical insurance and am available to take on new clients through WPA. See below for their website details.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) and work under the BACP Code of Ethics, and am also listed on the BACP Accredited Register.

I see an independent supervisor and hold Professional Indemnity Insurance.

I have helped many clients over the years, and received wonderful feedback. Here are a few words from a few clients who felt I have helped them. You can read more testimonials on my website.

"I was initially very nervous about taking this step but Jackie was very understanding and easy to talk to and has left me with some useful things to remember and different ways to look at things. I wouldn't hesitate about going back in the future."

"From the first day Jackie made me feel completely at ease. The combination of a relaxing, comfortable room and her friendly approach is ideal. I’ve made real progress since I started and feel happier as a result. Jackie seems to have an infallible memory for all I have told her. She is able to adjust her approach to fit with exactly what I need whether it’s kind understanding or assertive reassurance. I’ve come away understanding so much more about myself and what makes me tick. I’m now more comfortable with who I am. I feel Jackie’s given me the tools and confidence to gain control again."

"I felt that Jackie really understood me and I was able to talk about things I have not been able to talk to anybody about before. I learnt a lot about myself as a result and feel happier than I have in years."
