About me

Reviews from Clients
"Sarah is a very warm, patient and sensitive listener. She creates a safe, calm space which makes me feel relaxed and free to open up and say anything I want. I never feel judged or pressured. I always feel completely accepted for who I am in her presence. Sarah empathises very deeply- you can count on her to be with you every step of your journey. I started seeing her a year ago and it is because of her continued support and compassion that I have noticed a great improvement in my well-being."
Souri

“Just wanted to say what a wonderful help and inspiration Sarah was for me in some of the most difficult circumstances I have had to face in my life.  She made me feel so safe and cared about as I had to face some very challenging aspects of myself and how to deal with the feelings that arose.  I would be more than happy to recommend her services,  as for me her help was life changing.” Julie

“I found my sessions with Sarah Saatzer to be very helpful and beneficial. Her warmth and character helped me to establish very quickly a trust in her that I lacked with previous therapists. She helped me to gain insight into myself and come to a new self awareness. I can highly recommend her”. Alison

"We just wanted to say a big thank you for the sessions recently. It really helped us to resolve some issues, and we seem to have a better understanding of each other now. So far so good." Julie and Keith

A warm welcome to you

It can be difficult to make the first steps towards counselling and to find what suits you. Whatever is troubling you I imagine you are looking for a space you can be free to explore whichever issues feel relevant to you at any given moment and at your own pace.

What I bring
I bring to the counselling relationship a sense of awe for the human condition, an authentic approach, curiosity about you and an open mind and heart.

I aspire to provide you with a space in which you feel safe and really listened to. I will be fully accepting of who you are and what you bring.

It is often a specific problem which brings people to counselling and you may need to know that I have experience of working with many issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar, trauma, abuse, relationship issues, issues arising from living in our society with neurodiversity, unwanted patterns of behaviour and much more.

I have worked intensely alongside people with "personality disorder" diagnoses and found how an accepting and supportive one to one relationship can really make a difference to them in their journey to a stronger sense of self and greater management of their difficulties.

I also have a lot of experience of working with people who are affected by close relationships with people with Narcissistic Personality Issues and all the issues that come out of that.

After in depth training in the field, I have recently widened my counselling lens into systemic  work and I can offer this lens in counselling if you ask: looking at intergenerational trauma and at inherited patterns in family systems and in relationships systems.

At present I offer Individual and Couples Counselling as well as Supervision for any helping profession on Skype, Zoom or WhatsApp. I also offer Family Constellations individually and in workshops in Wincobank, Sheffield

I have been counselling in the voluntary sector and in private practice since 2005.

Relationship Counselling
In my work with couples and with relationships of any kind I offer equal empathy and regard to each person, interested in understanding what each person is telling me. This helps empathy and understanding to develop between clients and eases stuckness and discord in relationships. I can also offer practical suggestions and guidance, particularly in the realm of improving communication, if you so desire.

My Background and Counselling Experience

I worked for two years at Sheffield Alcohol Advisory Service where my clients appreciated my holistic approach in which they felt safe to explore all issues that came up for them in the counselling session.

I worked for two years in the Sheffield University Counselling Service as a counsellor for students.

I have been working with individuals and couples as an Associate at Sheffield Central Counselling for over 9 years.

I am a Registered member of the National Counselling Society and I work according to their Ethical Framework.

I have a particular interest personally in meditation and spirituality.

Although I now work only with adults I have worked in different settings with children for twenty five years and my main focus has been to listen to them and their parents and learn from them what they need. For six years I worked in an NHS Sure Start supporting parents in their aim to be the best parents they can. I ran groups and I also worked one to one as a Family Support Worker.

I worked for Place2Be, counselling children one to one in a primary school alongside which I completed the Place2Be specialist training in counselling children.

Various training and Continuous Professional Development including group work, systemic workshops, work with trauma and extreme suicidal distress, and much more!

My particular training interest has been in the areas of regulation of emotions and dealing with past trauma. I have attended multiple trainings and read widely on how our brains adapt and deal with the things that happen to us and affect our behaviour and how we can use our adult brain to gradually understand and overcome unwanted thoughts compulsions and behaviours. I am a "Friend of PODS"  and attend their trainings. This is an organisation set up to give support and training to people who have suffered from childhood trauma and those who work with them. More specifically it is there to support people with Dissociative Identity Disorder and those who work with them.

After in depth training in the field, I have recently widened my counselling lens into systemic work and I can offer this lens in counselling if you ask: looking at inherited patterns in family systems and in relationships systems.

I now offer group workshops in Family Constellations in Sheffield.

I have lived in many countries including Sierra Leone and Austria. In my work and personal life I have been lucky enough to get to know and be close to people from many parts of the world.

I speak German as a second language.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
