About me

I am one of the leading specialists in anger in the UK and have helped hundreds of people change their lives over twenty years. You will be in the best and safest of hands.

Angry? Depressed? Anxious?
Do anger and conflict ruin your life? Your family? Your work?
Is your marriage/relationship breaking down?
Are your children and partner suffering or scared of you?
Do you lose your temper at the smallest things? Are you in danger of losing those you love?
Are you the best parent you can be?
After you have lost your temper do you feel huge regret? Do you dislike yourself?
Are you impatient?
Do lateness, traffic and children not doing what you want every time make you angry?
Would your friends and family say you are such a nice  person if only…..?

If you are suffering with anger, depression or anxiety, if your self esteem is feeling low I can help you as I have helped many people in similar circumstances, helping people in situations where things seem to be getting worse and the pressure is getting too much.

In the very first session you will start to learn simple, but powerful new ways to start controlling your anger, to express how you feel and ask for what you want. You will learn to stop your anger controlling you. You can change your life and calm everything down when you begin to understand the causes of your anger and stress. You can look at the world differently. You will start to feel more peaceful when you realise that it is possible to make changes in how you live your life. It is possible to live a life not ruled by anger, stress and hurt.

By contacting me about your anger you have already taken the first step, this alone is transformational and worthy of the deepest respect. You have recognised you have a problem that you want to deal with and the truth is that many of us do not even get that far! Within half a dozen sessions (in my experience) you will see that there is "light at the end of the tunnel". With this realisation your view of yourself and the world may already be shifting along with the behaviours and attitudes which have not been helping you and those around you.

Many of us see anger as a bad thing, in my experience it can be useful - it tells me something is wrong, something I may not even be aware of. If we look at anger in this way then our attitude to it can start to change "what is my anger telling me". This is especially important in relation to children who will tend to act out their needs rather than verbalise.

Everyone feels anger to some degree, it is a normal feeling, part of our humanity. I think this is important. If I think there is something "wrong" about feeling anger then I am making exacerbating feelings I am already having trouble with.

Anger Management is not like the film with Jack Nicholson, it is serious caring deep and life-changing work - if you want it to be. You will learn techniques for managing your angry behaviour and sometimes that can be enough. At the core is working out what drives our anger and changing our attitude to being angry. This is not about not having anger, it is about using and channelling it in different ways that can be life-enhancing.

Working with anger raises question about how I want to be "me" in the world. It is not about massive sudden changes, these are not generally helpful. This is a gentle process of learning to be more of "who you are" and doing less of the angry behaviours which are affecting your life.

I welcome your enquiry in the knowledge that this may come at a time of great difficulty for you, your family, your child or your relationship. Sometimes the opportunity to be listened to is in itself transformational and out of this a new part of you can be allowed to flourish and grow.

I work with adults, children, couple's and families.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am one of the leading Anger Specialists and therapists in the UK. My key perspective is that anger tells us about our way of being and often shines a light on existential dilemmas. My strong belief is that the old-fashioned focus on “tools” to deal with the anger alone can impede real progress and growth. This view has grown from many years of experience in working with anger.

It is important to state that  when we start looking at anger we are led to every area of our humanity, every "disorder" and every behaviour.

I work with clients from all walks of life and as well as welcoming self- referral my courses are a recognised referral point for social services, lawyers, employers and CAMS. I am a full member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) and a UKAHPP Associate member (UK Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners). I trained and am a Graduate from the much respected Spectrum Psychotherapy Practice, specialising in humanistic and Gestalt psychotherapy, I also hold the Spectrum Certificate of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I was initially trained by BAAM (British Association of Anger Management). I have an MBA (University of Westminster 1991) and a BA HONS (Leeds University 1978). I have also been awarded the BACP Certificate of Proficiency.

I have worked as a consultant for many blue chip companies at the highest level. I have run management courses including the BA 2nd Year at the London Metropolitan University. I was a founder and Board member of the International Managers Forum in 1992 (now MMF) and has represented them at the House of Commons and internationally. I also have experience in residential social work, counselling and key work. I was for many years a Board member of the Alone In London Service homelessness charity (ALS).

As well as one to one I offer the prestigious “Making Anger Your friend” https://www.angerplanet.co.uk/anger-management-classes/ weekend course. My busy practice includes work with couples and families and I run ongoing therapy groups.

I have run anger training for BACP therapists around the UK.I have appeared regularly on the Nick Ferrari Show and the Anna Raeburn Show on LBC Radio, in Womans Own, SHE magazine, Men’s Health and on the BBC. I have featured on the Channel 4 Programme Embarrassing Bodies and am frequently interviewed about the anger issues of people in the news such as Zinedine Zidane, Naomi Campbell and Hugh Grant. In 2012 I discussed the argument between Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson on LBC Radio, Joey Barton on Talk Sport, Andy Murray on Sky News and Luis Suarez’ biting incident at the World Cup 2014.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I work with families, with couples and with children as well as individuals. Often the best way to deal with your anger is to actively work with the relationships that generate the angry feelings. This can be the most powerful route to healing. Couples counselling can be very effective for relationship issues.

On our unique and transformational course you will learn:

How to be angry politely
A simple technique to stop you shouting and swearing
To be less impatient
The right thing to say in sticky situations
To avoid road rage
How to be heard without raising your voice
That being happy is more important than being right
To set a better example for your children and be a better parent
To deal with kids that get up late for school every day
To cope with traffic, lateness and all the other things that make you angry
Focus on the important things in life, not get angry at things that don’t really matter

Learning these new skills will make you and your loved ones calmer and happier. This will make a marked difference to your life.
