About me
I recently moved to the area from Cumbria, where since 2006, I worked successfully with individuals, groups and couples to enhance their lives. I now offer face to face appointments in Halifax and Hebden Bridge; I also see clients online, and while walking in the great outdoors. At this point I guess you are wondering whether to proceed further and if so, why you should choose me.
It may be helpful for you to know that when I first attended therapy in the year 2000, I wasn't even sure what a counsellor or psychotherapist was, or how they could help me. I just knew I was going through yet another appalling episode of depression, despite attempting a multitude of ways to prevent this. My experience of therapy was so positive that I went on to train to be a therapist to help others attain the same outcome and live a more contented life. Even now I appreciate the challenge, growth and benefits of therapy, so I have attended as an individual, as part of a couple or as a group member ever since. It's fair to say I walk the walk as well as talk the talk.
I believe one of the best ways to know if therapy, or a particular practitioner is for you is to just give it a go. You'll soon 'feel' if it is for you or not and please don't be afraid to say so. I offer a free online or phone session of 30 minutes to help you decide if you'd like another appointment. Usual charges for a 50 minute sessions are; Individual £50 and Couples £70. Concessions are available, such as for some people on income support, so if you think this may apply to you, please ask.
I am fully accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and fully insured with the Psychologists Protection Society. If you would like further details about anything please just ask.
Training, qualifications & experience
As well as private work with clients, I have offered volunteer counselling with a drug and alcohol agency. I have also worked for many years with problem gamblers and their families through an agency licensed to offer them therapeutic support. I have also worked with various other agencies offering therapeutic support including, North West Ambulance Service, Social Services, Criminal Justice Service, Electrical Industries Charity, Sporting Chance and other Employee Assistance Providers.
I provide individual supervision and have held supervisory roles at a domestic violence support agency and a drug and alcohol support agency.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
