About me

Having over twenty years experience as a therapist I know the most important thing is that you feel comfortable, hence our first meeting will be free of charge.

If you find yourself reading this profile, you are probably experiencing one or more of a range of emotions, such as lack of confidence and self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief or loneliness. Clients often arrive with a painful relationship problem or loss of some kind; others simply feel stuck, and 'What am I doing with my life?'. Most of us will confront such challenges at some point in our lives.

Most likely you'll be an intelligent person, and have spent years trying to make life work better. Maybe it feels like failure to ask for help, but rationally why not consult a professional? After all, we do this in every other area, so why not with our deepest and most important concerns? Talking it through will bring new insight and perspectives, as well as understanding and confidentiality. Friends and family may sincerely want to help, but being so involved they are bound to have agendas of their own, and probably won't have the expertise to help you find what's right for you.

I trained as an existential therapist, but over the years I have integrated the most effective skills of the main contemporary approaches (Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy/CBT and person-centred.) This benefits you as the therapy will be tailored to your individual needs, and personal circumstances.

In addition, being a fully qualified homeopath I can offer you something different.   I am happy to include homeopathic remedies, at no extra cost, as part of the counselling process. This approach is ideal where the concerns are both physical and psychological, for example severe PMS, panic attacks, or depression arising from a debilitating illness such as ME.

I facilitate groups on a regular basis in a systemic therapy called 'family constellations'. This powerful approach can also be used with individual clients, and is especially helpful when the difficulties focus on our children. Teenagers, especially, can be very challenging, and hard to reach with conventional methods. Constellations allow you, the parent, to do the work for them.

I am accredited with the BACP, and am down to earth, experienced and professional. The most difficult step is often making that initial contact, so I encourage you to get in touch. You have nothing to lose.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

It's not easy to describe this powerful systemic approach; it frequently makes a real difference where years of personal, individual therapy has failed to move things along. Constellations help to reveal and resolve problems (entanglements) within the family system. They are invaluable for a range of concerns, children and teenager troubles (the parent can come along alone and do the work) chronic health problems, difficult relationships with a partner or family, or simply 'I'm not happy and I don't know why'.

You are not required to share yourself and reveal your concerns unless you come as an issue holder, hence it's a great way to 'safely' get to see what this approach is about, and what it can offer you. We work on only four issues in the day. Having said this, however, of course the more you feel able to share and participate, the more you and others will benefit. Participants generally find the approach moving and inspiring, and even if you don't book to work on your own particular issue, you'll almost certainly be touched and enlightened by the in depth work of others. If you want to discuss whether this is a good workshop for you, you're welcome to call and talk to me before committing to attend.

If you bring along a stamped addressed envelope I'm happy to send you a CPD certificate.

What Happens at a Workshop?

The group sit in a circle of chairs and, with guidance, the space in the centre is used to set up the constellation. A constellation creates a 'living map' of the issue, and allows for hidden dynamics and fresh solutions to surface and be explored. The new look at challenging problems often quickly leads to remarkable insights, and hence possibilities for resolution.

To begin each piece of work, the person who is bringing their issue briefly describes the difficulty they are facing. We clarify the concern, and what they long for, and I'll then suggest they choose group members to represent various elements of the system being explored.

Without speaking, the issue holder guides each representative to stand in relationship to one another in a way that resonates with their deepest inner sense of the relationship dynamics. As a result a pattern is created, an external picture of an inner, often unconscious, image. This is the start of a constellation and, even at this early stage, often reveals fresh insights and perspectives. The form of the rest of the constellation depends on the issue, the representatives feedback, my observations as facilitator, and the kind of solution available within the system.

During the constellation I gather information and insights from the representatives - they will often experience distinct and precise sensations. As the dynamics gradually become clearer, I am able to work with the representatives to bring reconnection and resolution to the whole system. This new image of resolution often provides the issue holder with new information and, more important still, with the energy and impetus for change.

As part of the group, you may bring an issue, or you will be invited to take part in other peoples constellations as a representative. Participants are invariably moved by the work and find that, even if they don't bring their own issue, they nonetheless bring more insight and clarity to their personal concerns.

Each constellation can take just a few minutes or over an hour, depending on the issue.

Some Feedback from Participants:

I was part of the holding group and the effect was still very profound. A sense of unity and resolution had evolved by the closure of each issue. The potential for healing and growth is limitless with this unique work. Cathy J

I knew I wanted to go, but I didn't know what I wanted to bring to the session. However by taking part, the issue uncovered itself and I was truly amazed at how deeply the acting of it out affect me and helped me to release and face parts of myself I had forgotten about.
Although I had not met any of the people attending the day, by the end I felt a bond with what we had shared and provided each other with. Jess

I absolutely loved working with you. Your quiet strength, love and insight contained each of us individually, and left me touched and changed by others' experiences. I loved it - and look forward to the next chance to work with you - perhaps on one of my issues next time. MA

I thank you so much for this amazing opportunity and for the last workshop. Sabine

I found it very stimulating and have found myself slowly digesting of what was, in fact, a deeply thought provoking session. The more I think about it, the more powerful I feel it to be. So thank you. Mane

My huge puzzle is coming together bit by bit, because of the workshop; coming together with a different people with different topics has been greatly beneficial to me. Maureen

The workshop really helped me to unearth and understand some feelings about an unresolved issue by seeing it played out in the session in a way that I hadn't been able to just by talking. Feeling what it was like to be a grandma, a daughter, even a sense/quality in the constellations of others was also enlightening. Chris

I found the work shops very challenging but also very healing, & I am learning about letting go & rewarding to ease other peoples pain even though they were complete strangers!  Lorraine

I would describe it as.... An amazing breakthrough in a day! Karla

At my first workshop I worked on my own issue and was surprised how understood, supported and loved I felt. I attended the workshops a few more times and took part in other peoples constellations which was very moving. Julia's respectful and considerate approach made me feel at ease and open to experience more each time. Kora

My experience in the workshop was to see my issue become alive in a "play" it was very powerful and healing. Thank you for the opportunity. Minoo

"Family Constellation helped me to address my past generations trauma (e.g. war), which had a huge impact on my present life. The therapy allowed me to shift my stuck, heavy energy and move on toward direction I have chosen. Now I feel within myself more at peace and harmony". Kasha

It was such an amazing day and it definitely shifted something. Feeling really quite emotional. Elke

I thought yesterday was amazing, I'm not really sure what happened or how but it felt really profound and beyond words.
I felt so much love for my "grandson" but it was completely non-verbal communication. I'd actually wanted to just go and hug him tightly right from the off when I was brought into the group and I have no idea where that came from. I also felt very strongly the character of him and what he was about.
I really want to do it again. Celia

It was a great blessing and help to attend the Workshop on Saturday and I feel my Constellation gave great insight.
Already I am experiencing a softening re my Mum and we are to visit her sister's grave on her anniversary next week …something we have never done. Also her parents.
Thank you again ..and I so appreciate your way of working and leading. Antonia

It was lovely to be part of the last family constellations!   I am still feeling the benefits from it!
I woud be really glad to come to the following one. Thanks again for all your help and support. Elisa

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the constellation workshop yesterday which I found moving and enlightening at the same time. I felt very safe in your hands facilitating the workshop.

Many thanks again for a very powerful experience!   Jane
