About me

Hello, my name is Amber and I am a qualified Therapist with twenty years of experience. I work with individuals, couples and families. We can talk about what's going on for you, explore your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, questions and confusion. Sometimes we can experience problems, emotional difficulties and may not know why or understand what is happening but we know things are not okay. Sometimes we do know whats wrong but can't seem to move on and experience re-occurring destructive patterns.

I will work with you to help identify root causes, experiences and express feelings that may have been suppressed for a long time, impacting on how you are feeling and being in the here and now. I work integratively this means I draw on different approaches to help each client heal and move forward. This may include working psychoanalytically, drawing on person centred and psychodynamic theory, at times drawing on brief solution focused therapy or cbt where appropriate. I work using myself as the main therapeutic tool being warm, empathic, perceptive, accepting, open and honest working both long term open ended and shorter term.

Getting in touch with your emotions and experiences can provide long term healing so that you are able to move on to a more enjoyable and fulfilling life. Through awareness and healing through the Therapeautic Relationship we can move forward.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Humanistic (Person-Centred) Therapist, Family Therapist and Dance and Drama Psychotherapist. Throughout my 20 years as a Therapist I have continued to work with individuals/couples/families and children. For ten years I've worked as a Therapist in the NHS, Including working within primary care with adults, within Child and Adolescent residential mental health services and CAMHS community teams. I have also worked within private educational settings with young people with complex needs. Before qualifying as a Therapist I worked for eight years in social services with families in need.

I experienced Therapy myself for many years which gave me the greatest development in my awareness and ability as a Therapist. I strongly believe to be able to see, understand and help clients to move forward we need to have felt/experienced and addressed our own issues.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I therefore abide by the Code of Ethics and Practice. I receive ongoing supervision to ensure I work ethically and within safe guidelines. I am also registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) due to having a Masters in Psychotherapy.

My qualifications are:

2001 Diploma in Humanistic Therapy
2000 Advanced Certificate in Counselling Theory and Practise
1999 Certificate in Counselling Theory
1998 Certificate in Counselling Practice.
2012 Post Grad Certificate in Family therapy

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
