About me

Anxiety about the fast-paced and ever changing world seems a common concern for many. How are you coping right now? Some coping strategies are effective, and some hinder our growth - avoidance, self harm, a disordered relationship with food, difficulty in relationships. I'd love to help if this is you...

How I work

I am an Integrative Counsellor, which means that I am interested in how people relate to the world, their loved ones and themselves. I usually work with clients in the context of their whole life experience rather than looking at one specific area, but am guided by clients in this regard.

Therapy with me is an opportunity to explore creatively, grow personally and develop aspects of yourself that may feel under-utilised, as well as acknowledging the variety of choices you could and do make. I work toward empowering you with a deeper understanding of who you are, what you feel and explore the possibility of creating personal choices, through increased self-awareness. You have unique, personal potential, and I hope that through working together we can uncover it.

Who do I work with?

I work with young people and adults on an individual basis. As a supervisor, I work with both trainee and qualified counsellors.

Previous experience

I have worked as a school counsellor in secondary schools in both England and abroad. Prior to that, I worked in Children's Services, supporting children and young people on an individual basis, as well as working therapeutically with families. My work in Adult Mental Health has been on both an individual and group basis.

Lecturing

I previously lectured on a CPCAB accredited Counselling and Psychotherapy Diploma course.

Other practicalities

I am able to offer flexibility in terms of appointment times - offering both early morning and evening appointments in order to accommodate your working day

I offer low cost sessions to trainee counselling students.

I am a registered member of the BACP and follow their ethical framework for practice, I am also fully insured and have an enhanced DBS check.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Having lived for several years in other countries, I have a sense of the cultural disconnection that sometimes comes with living in a foreign place. I am interested in exploring cultural identity issues with people.
