About me

Counselling can provide an opportunity to talk through difficult, and sometimes distressing issues, where you can be heard without feeling judged. I offer a safe environment in which clients can explore issues that are troubling them. Counselling can be helpful in increasing our self awareness, and encouraging personal growth. It can also assist in identifying any problems and unresolved issues, enabling the client to make changes.
I work with individuals, couples and sometimes with more that two family members.
I am accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy since 1996.

Training, qualifications & experience

Post Graduate Diploma Couns. University of Hertfordshire 1995
BACP Accreditation 1996
Cert. Stress Managment 1996. Cert Supervision. Institute of Stress Management 1996
Cert in Person Centred Supervision. Psychology Matters. 2003

I offer counselling and psychotherapy,  to individuals and couples. Since qualifying I have been practising for 23 yrs, this includes 8 years experience as a practice counsellor for two GP surgeries, where my clients ranged from 11 to 96yrs. They brought a wide range of issues, through which I have gained much experience in working with the following problems; anxiety, stress, depression, family issues, low self esteem, work related stress, bullying, post traumatic stress disorder, bereavement, relationship problems, lack of confidence and sexual abuse.

Couple counselling can be useful in identifying the issues that need to be addressed in order for the relationship to continue, It offers a safe environment in which to explore the problems in the relationship, and help to find a better way forward, together.
A place where both parties can be heard and have their say. It can also be useful in helping them to understand the other's point of view.

It can also help couples to come to terms with the sometimes inevitable end of the relationship, assisting them to find an easier and more respectful way through this very difficult time.

I offer supervision for practicing and trainee counsellors

I have worked at Oaklands College St Albans, as a tutor for the Foundation year in Counselling and as a facilitator for the experiential group.

I have also worked for Major Train and bus Companies, helping the drivers, to come to terms in their involvement with fatal accidents. P.T.S.D.

I am now in private practice, offering one to one short focused, or long term work.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I also work with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. This is a difficult subject, victims can some times find their feelings resurfacing in adulthood, often when they themselves become parents.
It can be both therapeutic and useful to work through unresolved feelings in a safe environment, in order to let go of the pain, allowing them to get on with their lives, unhampered by old emotions.
