About me

Life can sometimes feel unmanageable, we can feel low and isolated and unsure of who to turn to. When we feel stuck in certain situations and these begin impacting on our mood and our behaviour, we can often need the support of an outside source to help us look at our situation more clearly and to help us regain control. This is where a counsellor can help.

I offer a person-centred approach to therapy in that each individual client will receive tailored support to their specific needs. This can be applied in a variety of ways that again will be dependent upon each client's preferences. I offer a safe and confidential space to discuss and explore issues in order to promote a healthier perspective. I am trauma-informed and promote a safe space for clients to work through their challenges at their own pace.

Building relationships and being a part of the therapeutic process with clients is something I continue to gain a great deal of satisfaction from. Observing a client find their way to living a more fulfilled life is an absolute pleasure. Having the opportunity to offer clients the time and space to simply focus on themselves can not be under-estimated. I provide a one to one therapy service, offering Person-Centred counselling, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Hypnotherapy where appropriate, all of which can be integrated to enhance your experience.

I own Clarendon Counselling, a service offering a variety of support and choice to individuals on a personal and professional level as well as couples counselling. I have extensive experience in working in the mental health field, having provided both long-term and short-term therapy to individuals in various different organisations including the NHS and Women's Aid. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and also co-managed Counselling North West - an organisation run by counsellors for other counsellors. In addition, I offer supervision on a 1:1 basis for counsellors and other professionals.

Feel free to contact me for more information and an informal chat to see how we might work together to get you where you want to be.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a BSc(honours) in Psychology, a national diploma in counselling, a diploma in cognitive-behavioural therapy, a diploma in Hypno-psychotherapy, and a certificate in Couple's Counselling. I have experience in working with many different issues from depression, stress, and anxiety, to phobias, compulsions, and abuse of all descriptions. I can also offer relaxation sessions for anyone interested in learning self-relaxation techniques.

I also have a diploma in Fieldwork Supervision and offer supervision to other therapists as well as other professionals such as school staff, NHS staff, and social workers.

I have worked with the NHS with clients suffering mild to moderate mental health issues including depression and anxiety, phobias and OCD, addictions, and loss, and specialise in working with women survivors of domestic abuse, having counselled for Bolton Women's Aid. I have worked with Homestart Salford counselling parents suffering from depression and served on the committee for Counselling North West for many years promoting continued professional development for other therapists.

I have also completed Applied Suicide Intervention Skills training (ASIST).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
