About me

Hello and thank you for looking at my profile.

If this is your first Counselling experience, it is natural if you feel a little anxious about contacting a Therapist. You will find that I provide a safe, welcoming space to explore your personal thoughts and feelings in a respectful, non-judgemental and insightful way, providing a reparative experience, while helping you to find your own way with the difficulties you bring.

I am an extremely experienced, well-trained and ethical Therapist.    I offer a professional, confidential service from my Therapy room in the village of Watton near Driffield and Beverley in the East Riding of Yorkshire.  I also work online and on the telephone if you are in a different part of the country.  I have many years' experience working with people from all walks of life and with many of life's difficulties.

I began working as a Counsellor in 2003 having had a career in Complimentary Therapies.  I am now a UKCP Registered Psychotherapst, qualified in 2016.    I am a Clinical Supervisor for qualified Counsellors and Psychotherapists, students, and people working in other caring professions.    I have also had experience as an Associate Teaching Member at Scarborough Counselling & Psychotherapy Institute.

As well as in Private Practice, I work with EAP for companies and large organisations and have also worked for the NHS in the IAPT service.

I undertake Short term, Brief and Focal Counselling, working with immediate goals in a short time frame, and Longer Term Psychotherapy, working at depth with historical patterns of relating. I work from a Relational-Developmental perspective and have a particular interest in childhood difficulties and Attachment issues which may have affected emotional development, having an impact in adult relationships.  I can help you to gain awareness, understand and heal these difficulties so that you can make a more informed choice in relationships and other areas of life.

Issues I work with include: Anxiety, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Health Anxiety, OCD. Trust, Bereavement, Grief and Loss, Abuse, Attachment Issues, Childhood Trauma and issues from childhood family, Developmental Deficits, Spirituality,  Relationship Difficulties, Separation and Divorce, Family Issues, Stress, Difficulties at Work, Low Self Confidence and Self Esteem.

I am Accredited by both the B.A.C.P. and the U.K.C.P. and work within their ethical guidelines.  I am committed to my own personal development, undertaking regular continued professional development courses and therapy.  Like all ethical therapists, I have the support of a professional Supervisor.  These things ensure that I can provide the very best service and experience of therapy for you.

I look forward to meeting you!

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
