About me

There are so many counsellors to choose from. Deciding who will be right for you can feel a bit overwhelming. So why choose me?

I work in a warm, down to earth, conversational way. As a Humanistic therapist, I respect the individuality of each person I work with and their unique life experiences.

While our histories continue to impact us in the present, this is not all we are. I am interested in how we manage ourselves in response to our experience everyday.

I have experience of different approaches and ways of working to ensure therapy is specific to your needs. Therapy can be open-ended or short-term for as long as you find it valuable and useful in your life.

Areas of particular interest include:

  • Building self-esteem and learning self-care techniques.
  • Managing anxiety and panic.
  • Creating and managing satisfying relationships with partners, family, friends and colleagues.
  • Conflict and anger management.
  • Work and career issues.
  • Loss.

Some previous clients have written:

“I really appreciated our sessions and found them helpful. You were able to go to depths with me in a holistic way which I think is very powerful.”

"I'll always appreciate the way you gave me space to express my suffering and the way you held my pain."

"I just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you for your continued help this year. I know I regularly talk about my frustration at my perceived lack of ‘progress’ but I do really value our sessions and have learnt a lot through our discussions."

"I feel like a small cloud has been lifted, so thank you for that."

"Thank you for your time and support. I know we've only been having these sessions for a short period of time, but I'm finding it so helpful."

"Just thought about you recently and wanted to send you a quick “thank you” email. Now, with certain perspective, I appreciate our sessions even more. I think you helped me a lot. When I look back I can see now how much I have changed during the last few months. And I guess it all started during our sessions. So – thank you very much!"

"Thank you for your support, wise counsel and guidance over the last few months. You have helped me to navigate through some very bumpy roads."

"I don't think I have ever done something as rewarding and valuable for me in my whole life... I wanted to be able, by letter, to hopefully get across how fantastic i think you are and that I couldn't recommend you highly enough. I really don't know how to thank you for the journey you've helped me start."

"Probably the most important thing for me to say is thank you, although the words themselves seem hardly enough to convey my gratitude for all you have done for me. In my darkest hours, you were my lighthouse offering me all kinds of illumination, including sometimes simply the reassurance that it was okay to feel my feelings, however uncomfortable or difficult they might have been. I learned to face some of my biggest fears, by dragging them into the light, I found myself stronger and wiser than I'd thought possible. For all this I am grateful, and these are the reasons I will now face the future confidently. I'll miss the safety and warmth of our time together over the years, our shared and familiar humour...I want you to know i'll never forget the time we have spent together. In the end, you've been a force in my life of such brilliance."

Training, qualifications & experience

I became involved in my own personal development in 1996 and psychotherapy training in 2003.

In 2006, I worked as a therapist in the voluntary sector for Richmond Borough MIND for a year before starting in private practice. I have been working with individuals for 16 years and couples for 10 years.

I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). This means my practice meets the standard for a competent, ethical and independent practitioner committed to professional standards of behaviour and practice.

I graduated from Spectrum Therapy training programme which is a United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) member organisation. I abide by their code of ethics & practice.

As part of my training, some of the courses I completed were:

  • Oxford Cambridge & Royal Society of Arts (OCR) Certificate in Counselling Skills.
  • Spectrum Centre for Humanistic Psychology Courses in Counselling Skills, Psychotherapy and Working with Couples.
  • College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) Introduction to Working with Couples.

I have a strong commitment to my own ongoing professional development, supervision and personal therapy.

With a BA (Hons) in Corporate Communication, Post Graduate Diploma and MA in Marketing, I previously worked in UK and international Qualitative Research for more than 13 years. My work involved moderating discussion groups, providing strategic consultancy and actively listening to and connecting with a diverse range of individuals. I also gained a rich understanding of career and workplace issues.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

This may be the first time you have considered therapy, or you may be returning to it. Either way, you can call for an informal chat about how we might work together. If I am not available to answer your call, please leave a message and I will call you back.

If you decide to book an initial session, we will explore what brings you to therapy at this time. At the end of the session, we can decide if we would like to continue working together and book further sessions. You are not obliged to continue if you are not completely comfortable. And I will tell you if I think someone else would be a better fit for you.

I also work with young people who are aged 18 or over.

Further information

Why choose psychotherapy & counselling?

Often a crisis or major life event starts us thinking about therapy or counselling for ourselves. We can also choose therapy at any point in our lives. We may want to learn more about ourselves, gain greater clarity on our thoughts and feelings, improve the quality of our lives and relationships, or unburden, have someone to talk to and tell our story.

Therapy gives us the time and space - in a safe, supportive and confidential environment – to reflect on what works for us in our lives and recognise changes we might like to make.

Therapy gives us greater awareness of our emotions and our behaviours. With this awareness, we feel more in control of our lives, are able to make informed choices as well as recognising more options available to us.

"Life is made of millions of moments.
We live only one of these moments at a time.
As we begin to change this moment, we begin
to change our lives."
