About me

Taking your first step to see a therapist or a new therapist can seem daunting. That's only natural and it's also natural for all of us to struggle at different times in our lives.  Life can be like waves, there are peaks and troughs, highs and lows. People look to me for help with all kinds of problems. If you're feeling stuck or overwhelmed it can seem difficult or impossible to untangle your jumble of thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

It is so important you find the right therapist for you, someone who makes you feel comfortable, safe, understood and welcome, someone who really gets you.

I am an Integrative counsellor/pyschotherapist with 23 years' experience helping all kinds of people with all kinds of problems. This includes people from many different backgrounds, cultures, races and religions. Whoever you are you are welcome. I bring a warm, caring, empathic yet challenging style to my work together with many years of practical experience. I hold accreditation as a Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Senior Accredited Supervisor with the UK's largest therapy organisation, The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Some people come to see me for short term work, 6 to 20 sessions. Others work with me medium term, typically 1 to 2 years. Some clients like to work with me at greater depth and this can take years. Whatever you're looking for we can talk about it.

My location

Currently I offer sessions online and from Spring 24 I will also be offering sessions in person from my locations in London N12 and London NW11.

In my experience some people can be a bit sniffy about therapy online but it is by no means the poor relation of in person therapy, both have advantages and disadvantages. Don't be put off having therapy online. It can be just as effective as in person and sometimes for some people even more effective.

You can even start online right now and move to in person later on if you like.

My fees

I operate a sliding scale of fees starting from a competitive rate of £80 per 50 minute session.

My approach

As an Integrative therapist I have a large toolkit of therapeutic tools and models from which I pick, mix and blend to fit, suit and match each individual person and their specific issues. These include the well know ones such as CBT and Attachment Theory and some lesser known ones such as TA, MBT and Psychdynamic which looks at processes outside of awareness, namely the unconscious mind.

The big advantage of working in this way is that I am able to treat both the person and the problem.  Mine is not a one size fits all approach. I like to look back at the origins of difficulties and how this manifests in the here and now but I also like to look forward to the future, perhaps setting targets and goals. I am looking to foster, nurture and produce long lasting, positive transformational change in people. I am not a dispenser of sticking plasters.

Experience

For 23 years I have helped 100's of people (individuals and couples) in my private practice, in various charitable agencies and in the NHS. Before becoming a therapist I worked in the business worlds of property, hospitality, retail and fashion. I bring all my long and varied real world knowledge and experience to my work in mental health.

Why choose me?

With so many therapists out there all promising so much how on earth do you choose the right one for you?

As a male counsellor and psychotherapist whose background is outside the world of mental health, I bring my real world, practical experience to my work. I am not one of those therapists who just sits there going mmm and ahah. My extensive toolkit means that I can tailor my tools to fit the person and the problem. It's not a one size fits all. I look at the past and the present and I also bring with me my tools from the world of coaching. This means that I can look with you at where you want to get to and how you can get there. Yes, I also integrate coaching into my therapy work and this can bring a whole different dimension to therapy. People can know where they come from and where they are now but can often get stuck in knowing where they want to get to and how to get there.

Why now?

The start of a New Year is the perfect time to get to grips with problems both old and new. New Year, new beginnings, momentum. Gym memberships peak in January. Come and sign up to my Mind Gym in 2024.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
