About me

Counselling and Psychotherapy : EMDR, Emotion Focused, Counselling for Depression, Person Centred, Mindfulness, Bodywork/Focusing

Providing face to face, video, telephone or text/email counselling. Walk and talk.

I have 21 years experience as an NHS Counsellor and have been working in Private Practice with individuals and couples for 13 years. I am passionate about the work and have a great deal of success and experience of working with clients and young people in helping to process unresolved issues to reach a greater wellbeing and understanding of their pain. Recent experience of supporting clients through Covid anxiety

  1. We often go through life experiencing difficulties or trauma and do not have the chance, for many different reasons, to process the thoughts and feelings which can get stuck in the body. I work with the body energy and mind as a whole to engage with what is under the surface and at the clients pace.
  2. If the trauma is great then dissociation can also be present so we need to gently begin to reconnect with the body and mind.
I have helped people move beyond their childhood trauma to a more whole and less fragmented self.
  3. Often people have become isolated and feel lonely due to painful past experiences and counselling can be a first step in reconnecting with yourself and others.
  4. I have worked and helped facilitate change with people with long and enduring mental illness.

By safely and at your own pace, being able to explore your internal feelings and thoughts you can gain a greater sense of well being and balance.

I have an interest in Nonduality and how this can also aid the psychotherapeutic process

Supervision

I find supervision exciting and revealing and want to work collaboratively with you to find what you need and how you want to work with your clients. I get excited about the emphasis on creating transformative conversations within supervision which brings it to life and can uncover what may be under the surface. Exploring what the client is presenting but also what may be happening between client and therapist, supervisee and supervisor and also what may be occurring within an organisation which may be getting in the way. Shining a light on what is happening and bringing clarity in order to work best with clients.

I read recently that the most important thing in supervision is to pause and slow down. I also feel that to provide a container for you and your work so that you feel able to bring what you need to and feel clearer

Mindfulness and Meditation

I have many years experience of meditation practice personally and can guide those requiring this in mindfulness training for stress, anxiety or panic disorder. Meditation and mindfulness can help resource and gain a feeling of peace and balance.

I completed the Mindfulness Based Stress reduction course and can use aspects of this training as a resource for clients and provided mindfulness workshops training for staff within the NHS.

Private Practice

I have been working privately for 13 years.  I wanted to offer privacy and comfort to clients which can be achieved in private practice. Appointments can be made at a time to suit you and your busy lifestyle.  This includes some out of hours appointments including Saturday mornings.

I hold indemnity insurance and have regular ongoing supervision as required by my BACP accreditation and membership and work to their Ethical Framework.

I am an Accredited Member of the British Association of CounsellorPsychotherapists fulfilling the criteria needed for this status as a counsellor and maintain my registration as Accredited Counsellor with them each year

My private practice is a warm and inviting space which is easily accessible and with ample parking available.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
