About me

Hello

People who seek counselling do so for a variety of reasons; you may be seeking counselling due to distress relating to bereavement issues, childhood abuse, trauma or relationship difficulties. Some clients aren't always sure  of the cause of their distress but are feeling anxious and/or depressed. Through a counselling relationship I will help you to explore these difficulties, helping you to see the issues more clearly and if you wish, taking action to resolve them.

I have been in practice for more than 25 years and my experience ensures I am able to offer a confidential supportive space for you. Since 2013 I have been offering counselling, psychotherapy and consultative supervision online. This is generally via zoom but also other platforms.

My work is with adults, couples and young people.

I found my way into counselling through my work with young people on Merseyside as well as having my own personal therapy and experiencing the benefits.

Training, qualifications & experience

During my 25+ years in practice I have worked with the emergency services, schools, agencies working with survivors of abuse across the UK and internationally.

I am qualified and experienced with an MA in Counselling Research from the University of Hertfordshire. I was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the BACP for my services to counselling in 2002 and am a registered member of the BACP.

In my practice I offer counselling, psychotherapy, consultative supervision and counselling training. This is online.

I have researched and published on counselling and anorexia as well as on counselling training matters. I also run an independent counselling training organisation in and have been involved in the education of counsellors for 20 years.

I work with adults, couples, and young people. I have particular experience with those young people who are experiencing anxiety as they approach challenging times in their lives such as exam stress and parental difficulties.

I offer both short-term and long-term therapy.

My experience in the field of trauma dates back to the beginning of my practice and I have updated my training in line with the research that has been conducted around trauma in recent years.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
