About me

Relationship Problems?  Work-related Stress? Or maybe you wish to explore individual issues in a safe place?  Consider my 16 years' experience and wide portfolio of skills at your disposal to help. Feel welcome to arrange a free preliminary chat to see if I can help you; it is most important to feel comfortable with the person you choose to undertake such personal work. If I am not the best person for you I will undertake to signpost you to someone suitable.
After undertaking Couple Training with Relate in 1999 I now work equally with Couples and Individuals. All work is tailored to your needs with regular reviews to ensure we are on track to achieve your goals. I am Bupa Recognised and registered with most Insurance companies and supply Employer Assistance Programmes for workplaces.

Are you considering Divorce or Separation or just feeling that things might be better?

Affairs, Betrayals, Conflict, Stress, Sex and Communication Problems affect our intimate relationship.  Some are the symptom of a problem; others bring a problem to the surface.
A relationship crisis need not mean the end. It can, with appropriate help, open up new understanding and a better way of being together.
Deal safely with anger and loss and find better ways to relate. Relationship counselling can offer a new perspective to help you move forward. Anger and Bullying by partners, friends, relatives and colleagues can also be addressed.  Understanding destructive patterns can permit healthier ones to emerge.

Do you prefer to explore a personal issue alone?
Whether you are struggling with low self-esteem, loss or sensitive problems you can be assured of  support and confidentiality to work at your own pace.

Considering Separation or Divorce?
Separation Work can offer closure and resolution where there is no way forward, for the best chance to move on to a more positive life.  Divorce may or may not be the best option - why not make the best supported choice?  Is the underlying issue one which will emerge in another relationship?  If you leave will you leave the pain behind?  Thinking, exploring and understanding can be worthwhile.
Assessments prepared for Domestic Violence, Reconciliations, Private Referrals and Treatment Plans. Reports for Solicitors, Employers, Rehabilitation Experts, Occupational Health and Insurance Companies.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

My confidential city-centre office in Lincoln has a private waiting room and disabled access. Flexible appointments, including evenings, are offered when available, usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
London appointments are offered fortnightly on Saturday afternoons. Supplementary sessions can be arranged via Skype, Hangout or telephone.

What to Expect

After a talk by telephone or an email exchange we can arrange to meet for a first assessment.  I will explain how I work and how confidential the work is. (You can see details of this on my website). If you have concerns I will be open and interested to know what they are.  Our first session is used to explore what has brought you along and some of your history so that I can build up a picture in my mind of what might be happening for you.  You will be asked what it is you want to get from our work and together we will have a focus, so we know what we are trying to achieve.  This is our contract. Most people choose to work for six sessions to get an understanding of their problem although sometimes it is less. If there is a convenient time each week that suits you then you will have priority for that session and it can be reserved and booked for you in advance.  It will remain yours until work ends. As the work progresses you may choose to space the sessions to fortnightly or monthly as need and resources allow. I prefer three days for cancellations if possible.

The new understanding can be enough to allow you to move forward.  Some people choose to work longer to allow their new insight to be 'worked through' - that means you will have the opportunity to experience acting in a new way with me as a therapist.  You may, for example, have an opportunity to work with your sadness or anger which has been buried.  Everyone is different and is treated as such.  The work will revolve around your needs and I will strive to explore with you and keep the work realistic so it can offer you satisfaction.  All work is reviewed every six weeks.

If, when we meet, I feel I would not be the best person to help you I will try to put you in touch with the most suitable person.
