About me

I am a BACP Senior Accredited  and Registered psychodynamic counsellor/psychotherapist. I offer sessions to individual adults on a weekly basis and work both short and long term.  My private practice has been running since 2003 and I offer a safe, consistent space to explore what can often be difficult feelings.

Counselling is a space to talk about whatever is causing you distress or upset; the counsellor is not there to give advice or tell you what to do, but to help you to understand and unravel what is going on. This may be linked to past experiences and patterns of behaviour and with the help of the counsellor, the idea is we can get a better understanding of the problems. I work with many issues and offer a consultation session firstly to explore whether I am the right person to work with you, as the therapeutic relationship is an important part of the work.

I have over 25 years clinical experience, with adults, adolescents and children, in a variety of settings, including the NHS, voluntary sector, schools and university. I have also set up and managed counselling services. I currently work in a hospice.
I also offer supervision, using an integrative model.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

My practice is situated 5 minutes from the centre of Crystal Palace and the rail station.

Please check my website for availability..

You are welcome to either ring or email in the first instance - email tends to get a quicker response - but it is useful to speak in any event before meeting for the first time. I will only offer an assessment session if I have spaces and we both feel you are in the right place. The assessment session is an important time to spend exploring what your needs are and whether I am the right person to be working with.
