Understanding and working with distant clients

A series of one day workshops has been designed for counsellors, therapists, practitioners and trainee counsellors who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of personality disorders.

The first workshop will concentrate on a broad overview of classification systems and definitions. Three further workshops will focus on the false presentation of complex and challenging clients in three well-researched areas of personality disorders - borderline, narcissistic and schizoid.

The workshops will provide a combination of both theoretical and experiential learning and include exercises to raise awareness of different personality styles both in participants and their clients.

Participants will have opportunities to develop new skills and specific interventions to form a therapeutic alliance when working with clients who present with these three styles of relating. Participants are encouraged to bring case study examples for class-based discussion. Participants will be provided with workshop handouts and a reading list for additional sources of information.

Other course dates:

  • Saturday 21st May 2016 – Introduction to personality disorders
  • Saturday 11th June 2016 – Working with borderline personality disorder
  • Saturday 9th July 2016 – Working with schizoid personality disorder

Please note, these workshops may be booked as single courses as each one is independent.

These workshops are facilitated by Hugh Waterson and each course provides six hours of CPD.
