Working with perpetrators of domestic abuse
Aims of the event
The aim of the event is to give space to consider the particular challenges of working with perpetrators of domestic abuse. The workshop will focus predominantly on male partners who behave in aggressive, violent or controlling ways towards their female partners.
The session will use practical exercises and case studies to explore issues around working with perpetrators of domestic abuse. We will identify some of the potential barriers in working with this client group, exploring issues of safety and safeguarding and think about how we might offer a supportive, accepting therapeutic relationship. The course will also offer space to consider the extent to which our own views and value base might influence our work and the impact on practitioners of working with this client group.
