Working with neurodiversity - focusing on autism and SPD
About the trainer
My name is Sharon Senior, and I have been in counselling practice for almost 20 years, and I have been a clinical counselling supervisor for 9 years. I studied Roger’s person-centred approach in training and after 2010, I began to develop an appreciation for other modalities, and this is where my integration began.
I have experience working in intensive access to psychological therapy (IAPT), children and family services, a local hospice, a successful private practice, and supervision contracts within organisations.
I have a passion for various areas of interest, and I have experience in delivering continuous professional development training. I would like to share some of the knowledge I have collated over time to support you on your counselling or pastoral journey.
Workshop aims
The aims of the workshop are:
- to provide an understanding of neurodiversity – focusing on autism and sensory processing difficulties.
- an overview of the history of autism
- to raise awareness of other conditions within neurodiversity
- an invitation to consider language used in client work
Learning objectives
- The delivery will be led facilitation style with discussion encouraged. Anecdotal evidence will be included from working with clients and three generations of family, so parental, peer and child ages.
- Some group discussion.
- To increase your confidence in working with individuals with autism.
