Working with fragile states of self – baby steps towards self-compassion
9-13 Bloomsbury Street
London
WC1B 3QD
Many clients present with fragile or vulnerable states of self and work with these clients must proceed carefully and with great sensitivity.
Chronic shame processes are rooted in developmental trauma and can make the processing and integration of early trauma memories difficult and challenging for both client and therapist.
This workshop introduces clinical perspectives and effective practical techniques for engaging with chronic shame. We will look at how to establish an empathic collaborative therapeutic alliance and engage with avoidant and dissociative processes; how to work with core emotions such as fear and self-loathing and how to cultivate together with our client a fresh capacity for paying attention to embodied and felt experiences and develop self-acceptance and self-compassion.
