There has never been a better time for therapists to ensure that they are equipped to support intersex people in their practice. The UK intersex population is upwards of 1.1 million (1.7%).

Research has shown that there is a significant need for therapeutic support in the intersex population, particularly where trauma is created through nonconsensual surgeries and medical intervention in infancy and childhood. The UK Gender Recognition Act consultation 2018 included questions for intersex people, and in 2019 the UK Government launched a variation in sex characteristics call for evidence survey, to more fully understand the experiences of intersex people. During our workshops, practitioners gain a deeper understanding of the following:

  • Differences between physical sex characteristics, sexuality, and gender identity.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the many physical variations in sex characteristics covered by the umbrella term ‘intersex’.
  • The existential challenges.
  • Human rights abuse in the UK and worldwide.
