Women are a gift (support group)
A support group for women who have become victims by circumstance.
Families often spend years in isolation; watching their loved ones waste away with abuse, drugs, alcohol or any form of addiction. Families may be ashamed of this behaviour by their children, brothers, sisters, husband or wife and feel guilty about their inability to help them. They are reluctant to seek expert support for the wider family for fear of being judged.
The aim of this support is to cut down on depression in the family. A better family support system, to relieve the extended family as a whole, in order to support each other more effectively.
Participants could benefit from the following:
- Accessing resources.
- Reducing depression.
- Reducing isolation.
- Addressing shame.
This takes form of providing and evaluating relevant information, personal experience, listening to and being listen to for sympathetic understanding.
What to expect from the meetings:
Sitting together as a family, without judgement and without stereotyping, in a confidential and safe space, women with similar issues will also be there.
Most people often say they feel better when they know someone has been through similar issues and understand their perspective.
Restoring family relationship.
