“What makes the perfect supervisor?”
Of course, there is no such thing as the perfect supervisor but in this session, Jane Vincent and Paul Goode will facilitate a discussion of what might be the more suitable qualities and traits that help the supervisor offer appropriate and supportive supervision.
Using a combination of small group exploration with feedback, large group discussion and personal examples we will consider those qualities that can be helpful (and some that might not be) when offering clinical supervision. For a period of time Paul, until his retirement, supervised Jane for her EMDR practice so they may be able to offer some interesting personal insights. We may also briefly consider how different modalities could influence changes in styles of supervision.
Jane Vincent is the Treasurer of YSF and works in private practice. She trained as a social worker, working in child protection, drugs and alcohol services and adult mental health. She trained as a psychodynamic psychotherapist whilst working as a social work lecturer and spent 20 years working with parents in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, specialising in adoptive families.
Paul Goode is a committee member of YSF and his first career was working in computer systems for 35 years before qualifying as an integrative counsellor in 2005. He was a full-time counsellor in NHS primary care mental health and completed counselling supervision training in 2009. Paul also trained in EMDR and became an EMDR Accredited Consultant. He worked in private practice after leaving the NHS until he retired in 2023.
YSF is a not for profit organisation for Supervisors and supervisors in training to connect and share experience, practice and good networking opportunities.
