Understanding and working with clients who use overeating to manage their feelings.
Dates 16th & 17th April and 14th & 15th May 2018
This is a four day (22 hour) programme exploring some of the issues and theory around emotional overeating, and offering participants a range of tools that may be used when working with clients who want to learn to manage their eating differently.
It will be a small working group (10-15 members) and will be experiential, adult learning. It is for qualified counsellors and psychotherapists who are motivated to extend their practice into this challenging area of work. It is designed to provide a coherent psychological understanding of some of the key issues that contribute to emotional eating and obesity, together with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively with clients with over-eating issues. Teaching methods will include didactic input, small group work, role play, experiential activities and plenary discussions. It will employ an integrative approach including some TA concepts and CBT techniques. The course comprises four modules, which focus respectively on helping clients:
- Explore and understand their emotional eating
- Explore their motivation and resistance to changing their eating behave
- Accept, contain and manage their feelings more effect
- Identify and challenge old thinking patterns
