What will it cover?
The lecture will introduce key psychoanalytic concepts about the body and the experience of embodiment through an application to body modification practices. It will examine the unconscious phantasies that drive people to compulsively modify their bodies through cosmetic surgery, piercings, tattoos, and scarification.

GCS welcomes Professor Alessandra Lemma, a Fellow of the British Psychoanalytical Society & Consultant Clinical Psychologist at the Anna Freud National Centre. Anna has worked at the Tavistock Clinic as Head of Psychology & Professor of Psychological Therapies. She has published extensively on psychoanalysis, the body & trauma.
