New year, new love?
The relationship MOT
It's getting to that time again. You would have had your Christmas dinner and spent time with families. The come-down of Boxing Day has arrived and you might be wondering whether your partner is the person you want to spend 2018 with.
January has always been a tricky time of the year for relationships as it signals new beginnings and closure. It allows people to evaluate where they are, where they want to be and whether their partner can come with them.
Maybe things have been stale for a while. Maybe you don't feel as close to each other anymore. The sex has become mundane and monotonous. There could be a reoccurring issue that keeps rearing its head be it:
- Money
- Family
- Future plans
- Career progression
- Who does what in the household
- Perhaps someone else has caught your eye.
There could be any or all these things going on but you are not sure whether it's time yet to leave the relationship.
Sometimes all we need is a short relationship MOT to get things back on track. This is why I always offer a block of six sessions of couples or singles counselling in January at a discounted rate which can be negotiated. I do this as I am aware that rash decisions, where relationships are concerned, can leave people filled with regret.
So before you make that final decision, try couples counselling so that whatever happens you can move forward into 2018 with confidence.
