Stress and trauma
This workshop will look at what a trauma is and theories about how we react to them. This will lead to a discussion of PTSD – the components of a diagnosis (with a focus on hypervigilance) and how counselling can fit into the treatment plan or management of long-term coping skills. We will also talk about Complex PTSD.
As well as these extreme examples of stress, we will be learning about what stress actually is, how it manifests in the body and techniques for working with clients who are suffering. This might include workplace stress, the stress of a new baby, or stress caused by illness or bereavement.
As always, there will be interactive activities using case studies and involving challenging personal development work. Attendees are not asked to reveal anything or work with anything personal if they don’t wish to, and we work hard to provide a safe and respectful space. There are opportunities to network with other counsellors and support workers from a wide range of placements and agencies.
