Seminar – strokes, food and weight

22nd June 2019, 7.00pm - 9.00pm
Counsellors and trainees
Free
The Berne Institute, 29 Derby Road, Kegworth, DE74 2EN

I have worked with many clients who overeat and undereat over the past ten years. It can be useful to use several TA theories and approaches when working with clients in this area. We will look at how their food script develops, their relationship with food today, and how we may think of food in terms of strokes (self-stroking and receiving strokes from others). We will explore how to use a relational approach with our clients to explore psychological nourishment as well as physical nourishment. We will also discuss the risks of working with clients in private practice who have a history of anorexia or bulimia.

Our seminars are free of charge to all. In each seminar, the presenter(s) will share their new thinking about a topic in transactional analysis or a closely-related field. There will be plenty of time for discussion, questions, and the interchange and generation of ideas. They take place on Saturday evenings. You are invited to arrive at 7pm for wine and cheese before the seminar. ‘The Berne’ provides light refreshments; please feel free to bring food to share if you wish. The seminar presentation itself runs from 7.30 – 9.00pm.
