Counsellors and trainees

ARK at Egwood CIC, Lopen Road, Merriott, Somerset, TA16 5QN

The training is equine-facilitated; you do not need any horse experience or be an equine-facilitated therapist to engage in this training.

This four-day training is about developing as a counsellor, psychotherapist, and equine-facilitated psychotherapist. Developing and learning is the most important aim of training.

You will gain an insight into systemic work and the value of horses in this work. You experience what the horse can show you, how they intervene, and what you might expect with clients. You will also gain enough insight and knowledge to apply this work in your sessions with or without horses.

This is a unique opportunity to attend equine facilitated training and get a taste of equine facilitated therapy.

The training will involve theory based on;

  • what is somatic experiencing?
  • what is constellations/systemics?
  • what is trauma?
  • physiology of the nervous system
  • window of tolerance
  • polyvagal theory
  • system dynamics
  • system sensing
  • basic attitude as host
  • the horse as a source of information

You will learn practical exercises and interventions that can be used with or without horses. The horses co-facilitate the training and aid our understanding of our nervous systems and our constellation systems, by being authentic participants.

You will also learn about the symptoms of trauma and practising. This will include;

  • activation and discharge
  • dissociation
  • disconnection
  • what is presence and how can it be practised
  • breathing techniques
  • learning to read body language
  • working with the horses
  • safety for your client, the horse and the therapist
  • exercises applicable to your work with clients

You will also learn symptoms of dynamics, preparing a constellation and leadership. This will include;

  • symptoms of dynamics
  • the personal and collective consciousness
  • questions to ask
  • interventions
  • practising and working with exercises applicable to your work

This event promises to be informative, creative, and unique and will give you a unique insight into different ways of working with trauma and PTSD.
