Overcoming adversity: a poetry therapy workshop

“There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time.” Malcolm X

All around us, we hear stories of natural disasters, wars, and misfortunes of all types. Within your own life and circle of family and friends there is unavoidable loss and disappointment. At times we can feel we have a huge mountain to climb.

Although adversity is inevitable, being defeated by it is optional.

  • Do you want to discover a new path to climb your mountain?
  • Do you want opportunities for wisdom and growth in a safe, supportive environment?
  • Do you want to improve your performance next time?

If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of the questions, then this workshop is for you.

Let’s explore together, discover new steps to overcoming adversity and climb your mountain using poetry, conversation and self-reflective writing activities. We will nurture the seeds and utilise the skills you have employed during tough times in the past to cultivate courage, self-belief and resilience.

Who is this workshop for?

This experiential workshop is for anyone who enjoys journaling, writing for personal development or professional development, or who is interested in using therapeutic writing with groups.

No prior knowledge of poetry or expressive writing is required, just a willingness to share, reflect and experiment with words in a supportive environment.
