“Our lifestyle and behaviour can significantly influence the way that our brain is shaped... overuse the regions associated with depression, and the pathways for happiness - which aren't being used - become weaker." - Fadel Zeidan, PhD

Luckily, the opposite is also true!

The New Year is coming and you may have in mind some New Year resolutions for the 2018.

You may intend to lose weight or to let go of the resentment towards one (or more) family member, or to get a pet or to move near the sea.

Change involves intention and transformation. This, from the neuroplasticity point of view, means that your brain needs to develop some new connections. Are you ready for that, and, if you are ready, how are you going to do that? How are you going to create your neural pathways leading to manifest your New year resolution?

Mindfulness may be handy to you.

Regular practice builds different neural structures, “that place where being mindful  becomes more second-nature is where the plastic change in the mind happens”, says Zeidan. This practice enables the brain to better deal with higher levels of distress, to experience awareness and acceptance and to mobilise the nervous system to physically enact positive choices. With the mindfulness approach, your brain is effectively being rewired.

One study showed brain transformations after just eight weeks of regular meditation.

Your way of feeling, thinking and choosing will be positively different... now you know how to manifest your New Year resolution.
