Introduction to relational psychoanalysis
This workshop will be delivered via Zoom.
- How to make use of the interaction between therapist and client?
- Which parts of ourselves, and our clients, do we attend to in any given clinical moment?
- How do we reveal ourselves without intruding?
- What can a focus on the here-and-now interactions do to deepen intimacy in a treatment, and lead to a more complex understanding of both the client and the dyad?
In this workshop, participants will learn about contemporary relational psychoanalytic theory, how it both converges and diverges with classical drive models and how it fits with other evolving fields such as neuro-science, affect regulation, attachment and trauma focused modalities.
By the end of the workshop you will:
- Learn how to describe the origins of Relational theory.
- Be able to identify contributing theorists to Relational theory.
- Be able to identify key concepts in Relational theory.
- Learn how to relate key Relational concepts to their own clinical work.
This one-day training will introduce participants to the fundamental concepts of Relational theory. Participants will learn about the evolution of the theory, incorporating aspects of British Object Relations, Self-Psychology, Interpersonal and Intersubjective theories, along with Feminist, Queer, and Race Studies. Learning methods will include didactic lecture, role play, large and small group discussion, and live supervision. Participants are invited to bring case material to share.
