Racism can be seen externally in discrimination and verbal and physical attacks, but recognising the internal aspects of racism can be more difficult. For the therapist, it is important to try to understand what happens in the mind of those engaged in or experiencing racism.

The Enid Balint Lecture 2019 will explore the inner relationship between the self and the socially stereotyped racial other, and will look at how racist dynamics play out in the mind.

The speaker will be M Fakhry Davids, psychoanalyst and psychoanalytic psychotherapist, and the author of 'Internal Racism: A Psychoanalytic Approach to Race and Difference'. The respondent will be Perrine Moran, psychodynamic counsellor, psychoanalytic couple psychotherapist and visiting lecturer at Tavistock Relationships.

This lecture will be of interest to individual, group, family and couple psychotherapists and counsellors.
