Diversity in couples counselling
Who is this course for?
This course will suit anyone who already has a basic understanding and experience of the counselling process and is looking to extend their knowledge and experience of working in the interesting, demanding and fascinating world of couple counselling.
Aims of the course
- To understand how difference and diversity affects couples.
- To understand the power of the therapist.
- To understand dominant discourses and privilege.
During the course, we will be looking at different relationship structures and challenging our current beliefs about different cultures/sexualities etc. Place thinking within a context of social inequality and unearned privilege, we will also consider recognising and working with difference and within own competence.
CPD: 7 hours
An experienced counsellor and trainer who specialises in relationship and LGBTQ therapy, Alex has an MA in relationship therapy and is an accredited member of BACP. Alex teaches for Relate as well as presents seminars and training on LGBTQ issues in counselling.
