DBC personality disorder training
Training run by DBC associates, this one day course would provide an introduction on the group of complex emotional and behavioural problems which include those receiving a diagnosis of personality disorder and other related difficulties (e.g. complex post-traumatic stress).
These represent a series of disorders which manifest themselves in everyday social work practice and often involve those clients for whom staff find it difficult to develop effective interventions. For example, 70% of parents involved in care proceedings were found to have a personality disorder, and those working with adolescents with conduct disorders and self-harmers will be familiar with the difficulties presented by this group, particularly managing issues like mood regulation.
This course will provide participants with the following learning outcomes:
- Understanding of the causes and background to complex emotional and behavioural disorders e.g. substance abuse, self- harming, PTSD, conduct disorders etc.
- Personality disorder and related difficulties.
- Effective working with this group.
- Understanding of the impact of childhood abuse and neglect on the development of emotional and behavioural regulation.
- Range of effective interventions /effective management of dependent and destructive clients.
- Working with risk and responsibility, and the promotion of responsible agency support
- Understanding of the importance of belongingness and the use of social learning.
- The use of social learning
- Considering the management of transitions in clients with disordered attachment – beginnings and endings.
