This new short term treatment was developed by the Tavistock & Portman NHS Trust and its delivery is contingent upon psychoanalytic competencies. It draws on a rich evidence base of over 30 years of psychodynamic research which has successfully identified those therapeutic factors most likely to help clients to benefit from therapy. This workshop will provide an opportunity for practitioners to gain an understanding of this model and how it can help clients who present with moderate to severe depression and associated anxiety.

Day content

The day will start with an overview of the model, assessment, interpersonal definitions of depression etc. The workshop sections of the day will give participants the chance to try key therapeutic skills used in DIT such as formulating an interpersonal affective focus (IPAF), mentalisation techniques, working with transference. There will also be an opportunity to consider the value of the Goodbye Letter for clients and practitioners.
