Body psychotherapy workshop with David Mann

Many traditional psychotherapy and counselling approaches focus on working with, and correcting mental conditions. They place little attention on body process, beyond paying lip service to the non-verbal and working ‘holistically’. Yet, many of the problems people bring to therapy (and therapy supervision) present bodily. Through experiential exercises with a bodily focus, we will explore how we may make, break or restrict contact with others and what processes may be at play in this dynamic. We will take a brief look at what societal pressures may invite us to concentrate on the verbal and hopefully enjoy experimenting, with raising our awareness of the way in which we relate to the world and those in our world through our bodies.

Dave Mann - The facilitator. MSc, Dip Supervision, Dip SPTI, TSM (SPTI), TSM (GPTI), RMN is a UKCP registered gestalt psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer. He currently delivers training on a BSc programme at The Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute, is part of the training team at the Manchester Gestalt Centre and teaches on a number of Gestalt programmes in Britain and abroad. Dave is the author of Gestalt Therapy: 100 Key Points & Techniques (Routledge/Taylor Francis 2010), Assessing Suicidal Risk in ‘Gestalt Therapy in Clinical Practice’ (Francesetti, Gecele, Roubal eds, FrancoAngeli 2013) and a chapter on Gestalt Therapy in ‘The Handbook of Individual Therapy’ (Dryden & Reeves eds, Sage 2013). He runs a busy private practice in Nottingham and also works from his home near Matlock and has a supervision practice in Birmingham.
