Body-esteem is generally regarded as part of a wider self-concept, but has the power to undermine self-esteem and a general sense of well-being. Poor body image/body-esteem is almost universal among overweight people and is endemic in the female, and increasingly the male, population. This workshop will address some of the likely origins of these feelings, but will focus on providing and discussing strategies to improve them. This will be an active and an interactive workshop. Participants should be prepared to discuss their own issues with body-esteem as well as their awareness of it in others (e.g. clients, patients, pupils).
Facilitator - Julia Buckroyd is a very experienced therapist who has been working exclusively with people with eating disorders for 35 years. She is Emeritus Professor of Counselling at the University of Hertfordshire a member of UKCP and an Honorary Fellow of BACP. She has written widely on eating disorders. Her most recent book is 'Understanding your Eating' which offers her way of thinking about eating disorders, useful for both clients and counsellors.
