Basic counselling skills - 30 hours - (held on four days over two weekends)
This 30-hour course is for those who have had no previous training in counselling skills or who those want to revisit the basic concepts of active listening. We will introduce ideas such as reflection, summary, paraphrasing, and confrontation, as well as Rogers ideas around empathy, congruence, and acceptance.
Tutor/pupil ratio is kept at a level to enhance the learning with an emphasis on learning from each other. There will be small group learning, exercises, practice, and feedback, as well as time in the larger group. Sessions will be tailored to the needs of those attending. We will draw from a range of theories with an emphasis on the practical, learning skills to take away and use.
The course is suitable for anyone who would like to expand their skills in relationships or want to take their first steps into the world of counselling. It is also suitable for those where counselling skills will add to their professional roles such as human resources, teaching, coaching, parenting caring roles, management, pastoral care, and those with a customer interface.
Recognition: A certificate will be presented at the end of the course. Students who complete the course may apply to attend the Link Centre’s diploma in counselling or psychotherapy course.
Tutor: Fleur Newton-Edwards
Dates: 30th/31st May and 13th/14th June 2020.
