Attachment theory seeks to explain how our early caregiving relationships influence our intra- and inter-personal relationships throughout the life course. With links to various therapeutic modalities, this event will help participants understand the role that attachment styles have in shaping our relationships with others and ourselves.

Learning outcomes

This training will help participants:

  • Understand the basic principles of attachment theory.
  • Identify ways in which attachment theory might inform their therapeutic work with clients.
  • Consider what we offer in our therapeutic relationships and how attachment theory might explain relationship dynamics at play in our work.
  • Reflect on how attachment theory can aid our understanding of developmental trauma, resilience and growth.
