Assessing CYP clients
Who is this course for?
This course is particularly for those who have already completed the four day ‘working therapeutically with children and young people’ foundation course. This course will also be helpful to anyone wishing to better understand how to contract with younger clients using the process as an opportunity to begin therapeutic engagement with a child or young person. There will be an emphasis on carrying out assessments within an organisational setting and you will need to make yourself aware of your own organisation’s policies and procedures.
Aims of the course
- To be able to feel confident in your contracting, assessment and therapeutic engagement skills with CYP clients.
- To understand the importance of appropriate confidentiality and respect for the child or young person’s autonomy within the context of child centred counselling.
- To have a clear understanding of how to use and prepare for supervision in the service of your CYP clients.
- To explore working in schools, outposts and special projects attached to CYP work.
CPD: six hours
